Geertz Rules!

When people ask me why I choose him, I just answer: "Because he is a genius".
Clifford Geertz was born in 1926 and died in 2006 in USA. He was considered "the most influential anthropologist in the USA". Although I was not anthropologist, I had a PhD in Harvard of Anthropology and was the best! And also, he has a honor mention; Award for Distinguished Contributions to Asian Studies (1987). His occupation was being a teacher in Institute for Advanced Study until his dead. He writed a lot of papers and books about his fieldworks when he has travel with his wife, trained as an anthropologist.
Anyway, there are many of information about his personal life but I think that is not important in this context, because I want to highlight his academic life, especially about his work called "Deep play: Notes on the Balinese Cockfight". Here he explained in a different way the human actions. It's very interesting because he used literary tools like narrative to finally raise a reflection of the village hierarchies through the "cockfight", this lets us see that we can make anthropology studies in anywhere!

But every work of him has some special that can you inspired!

Human Evolution is the best!

In anthropology we have a lot of subject but, the most interesting was Human Evolution. Is the subject that I enjoy this semester because I really learn a lot that I like and thanks for it I got to appreciate the past from another perspective. In class we usually talk about the biology and anatomy but the main content that we see was primates that explain the Human Evolution, that include any evolutionary timeline from the ecosystem. I choosed Human Evolution because that is really necessary for the future in the job that we choose, the scientific part tells a lot of thing about the culture.

Something special that enjoyed was make survey to a work called “Evolution and Society”. We met some people from Santiago that practice another unusual religion; I talk about “Hare Krishna” from the Indian continent. We compare this with the catholics and this two groups become very similar!

That makes me think that every religion takes a structure, and what they think about the evolution topic has not different at all, all of them think in his god like the one creator of the humanity.

I really enjoyed do this work and his relationship with the biology!

P E T S

The nature is so beautiful and this obviously includes the animals! I really love these creatures because they are part of this world and I think that puts them at our level, this is one reason that explains why I am a vegetarian. Makes me very angry the zoos!!!! Humans are so cruel, some people think just in their gain and advantage because they think that they are "more intelligent" than the animals and this allows them to do what they want with them. If I would be rich I buy animals and take them back to their habitat.
In my house, everyone loves the animals! I've had cats since I was a little girl but... my neighbors don't like cats. They disappeared "magically". It's so sad because I could not have any for a long time and I remember cry a lot for this. My parents decide don't have more animals to prevent them from suffering in the future and we agree. I can't understand what happen with this people, they just hate the animals or something sicker! I would like to denounce them but the law does not regulate these cases correctly...
I can't choose which is the best pet! I think that this depends on the person but in my personal opinion, it's better to adopt before buying one.

About my life academic

I love the sky. When I was a child I dreamed of flying on a cloud for around the world and I liked to think that they were made of some magical substance. The origin of this is my grandmother, I had a very close relationship with her. She was synonymous with philanthropy, loved books, sky, and complex issues. I remember that on many occasions she shared some of his knowledge with me, that is why her fascination with sky soon became something of my own as well.
We spent whole nights talking about the depth of the universe and unexplainable phenomena, answering all this with her extensive knowledge acquired thanks to the reflexive readings she had made throughout her life. It was astronomy then, my ideal career. Knowing the space and navigating in it became my goal... I could not think of anything other than the mysteries that prevented us from being clear about our origin as a human species and explaining the inexplicable! (It was very ambitious on my part) But something happens, I met the philosophy and the idea of understanding the human being to understand the world was important. What about the cultures around the world? What about the people that interpreted the sky and the stars? And the origin is the same around the world? The science lost the value and the thought of the people catch my attention. That doesn't mean that I don't believe in the science, I'm just saying that the people are the password to understand my world and the universe (personalitly)
I discovered my humanistic side and anthropology was a career that encompassed everything that I liked. They are careers that are partly related. Currently, I course my first year of Anthropology-Archeology. I would like to work outdoors researching cultures and the way they interpreted the sky. Thinking about my future really makes me happy!

A B O U T M E

My mom and me. (2002)
Welcome to my blog!
I want to tell you a little about my life. I was born in Santiago, Chile. I have a very simple life in Maipu and I have lived always in the same place! But, I think that this place it's not bad at all. It's my home and I'm so happy here.
When I was a child (I'm 18 years old) I went to the school called "C.E.M.A.R". This place it's 5 minutes from my house so I arrived all my life late! I stayed since 2004 until 2017 but C.E.M.A.R wasn't a lovely place for me, I really hate it! Still, I was not bored at all because I had many activities outside of there. I actually study in the University of Chile, Anthropology-Archeology.
There are six people that make up my family. (We are too many!) My mom, my dad, my two sisters and my brother. The oldest is my brother, he is 29 years old. It is followed by my sister of 26 years and finally my sister of 16 years. My brother has a family so he doesn't live with us. (He's the only one that lives alone with her wife)
I usually paint and write in my free time. It makes me feel something hard to explain but is so nice and relax. I don't like the T.V or something technology, I avoid using it as a means of distraction. I love talking about anything with people that I like but it's so hard started a conversation! I love listening to music, reading and go out too.
